In order to strengthen international academic exchanges and regional cooperation among the global bay areas, IGHMDS will annually hold international academic conferences on the Global Bay Areas Development.

In October 2021, the 1st International Conference on the Global Bay Areas Development will be held in Guangzhou. The theme of this conference is “Regional Cooperation and Innovation-driven Development”.

The strategic positioning of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (Greater Bay Area) is aimed to create a first-rate international bay area and a world-class city cluster. Through the cross-regional cooperation among Hong Kong, Macau and the nine cities of Guangdong, we can build an international scientific and technological innovation center with global influence, and therefore to promote and achieve innovation-supported economic systems and development models. Based on the strengthening of interconnection and public infrastructure construction, the Greater Bay Area will meaningfully enhance the growth potential of China and its trading partners (such as countries along the “Belt and Road”), promoting the rebalancing of economic activities, to the extent of having a profound impact on the regional and global value chain system. For the Greater Bay Area into achieving world-class status, on the one hand, it should establish cooperative relationships with other global economic development regions and world-class bay areas, on the other hand, it also requires institutional and cultural supporting systems covering regional governance, legal system construction, cultural ecology and international communication capacity.

This conference will be conducted in two parts. In the morning of 23rd October, there will be the main forum with a speech on the theme of  “Regional Cooperation and Innovation-Driven Development”. In the afternoon, sub-forums will be set up to conduct in-depth exchanges on “Innovation, Entrepreneurship and Regional Economy”, “Regional Governance and Legal System Construction”, “Cross-Cultural Exchange and Bay Area International Communication” with regard to bay areas. Depending on the situation of the epidemic at that time, the conference will be held in a combination of offline and online meetings.

We sincerely invite experts, scholars and young talents from home and abroad to actively participate in and contribute to such a global affair. The paper can be accepted in both Chinese and English. We welcome the submission of papers that address the themes of the conference and the sub-forums, relating to international successful cases, failure experiences and critical research on relevant international experiences. The topics of the papers that we mainly focus on include but are not limited to the following:

Changes in the Nature of Special Economic Zones and Free Trade Zones

Regional Governance and Legal System Construction

Innovation-driven Development

Regional Cooperation

The Belt and Road Initiative

Bay Areas Culture and International Communication
